Prominent among my interests, and definitely the
most visual of them all, are shan shui paintings from China. I can get lost for hours exploring the
hills, meadows, and villages depicted by Shan Shui artists. The banner of this web site is a small cropping from A Thousand
Li of Rivers and Mountains by Wang Ximeng. (Wow, I would love to be stuck in this painting, either up in the hills enjoying the view or relaxing on a small fishing boat sipping a drink under the sun!) Apparently
not much is known about the artist and this painting is the only one known to
exist by him. The original is at the
